A group called 'Stop Hyper-Scale Data Centers in Muscogee County' hosted a meeting at the local public library to discuss their next steps in fighting the data center.
The group's goals were not just to talk about their concerns, but to start organizing concrete action. Attendees compiled a list of questions for local leaders and discussed the possibility of pushing for a moratorium on the data center project. They also talked about writing letters, attending public meetings, and spreading their message more widely through the community.
'People are really passionate about this topic. It impacts where they live, where they work, the beautiful land,' said Darlene Laird, who started the 'Stop Hyper-Scale Data Centers in Muscogee County' Facebook group. The group recognized the need to form sub-committees to better accomplish their goals, and said there will be more meetings in the future as they work to halt the proposed data center development.
