Sedgwick County Commissioners have voted to extend a pause on data center applications for an additional 90 days. The initial pause, which took effect last summer, was set to expire on June 11th. This latest extension is intended to give the county more time to establish comprehensive rules and zoning codes specifically for large-scale computer server facilities. Commissioners indicated that more time is needed to craft these regulations. One commissioner expressed support for the three-month extension, acknowledging the need for it and stating that September would be a reasonable time to make a final decision on policy, whether they are ready or not. This marks the second time the county has extended the moratorium on new data center applications.
