Richland Parish, Louisiana, experienced an unprecedented surge in sales tax collections in 2025, nearly doubling its revenue in a single year, a feat that took two decades to achieve previously. Data from NELA Growth, an economic tracking site, indicates an $18.1 million increase, bringing total collections to $38.7 million, largely attributed to the ongoing construction of Meta's AI data center within the parish. The economic impact continued into 2026, with Richland's school board alone collecting $19.7 million in the first quarter, significantly outpacing its entire 2025 collections for the same period.
The "Meta Era," as labeled by NELA Growth, has transformed the regional economy, with quarterly parish totals jumping from a typical $4-7 million range to $38.7 million in Q1 2026. Smaller communities like the Town of Delhi have also seen substantial gains, reporting its biggest first-quarter sales tax jump in nearly a decade. Rob Cleveland, president and CEO of Grow NELA, highlighted these figures as evidence of the Northeast Louisiana region creating new opportunities and attracting investment, also crediting statewide policies that make Louisiana a favorable state for business and individual income taxes.
