The No Data Centers SGV Coalition and San Gabriel Valley residents are preparing to hold a rally on Saturday, May 2, to protest the City of Industry's land-use decisions, particularly regarding proposed data centers and battery storage projects. The event will commence at Schabarum Regional Park with speeches from coalition leaders, residents, and advocates. Following the program, demonstrators will move to Colima Road, directly opposite Puente Hills Mall, which was previously the site of a proposed data center.
Andrew Yip, an organizer with the No Data Centers SGV Coalition, criticized the City of Industry for disproportionately burdening surrounding communities with environmental and public health impacts without meaningful input. The coalition, which includes organizations such as Avocado Heights Vaqueros and No Data Center Monterey Park, has voiced significant concerns over fire risks from battery storage facilities, increased energy demand, industrial noise, pollution, and the cumulative effects of large-scale industrial development near residential areas.
