This initiative stems from an order issued by Governor Greg Abbott on August 3rd, which mandated a pause on data center developments to gather more information. The governor's inquiry specifically seeks details on the water and energy consumption of these facilities, as well as any involvement of public funds.
Approximately 300 large data center projects across the state are currently subject to this review. ERCOT plans to soon issue verification requests to the companies involved to collect the necessary data.
