Meta has officially launched its first artificial intelligence-optimized data center in the United States, located in Temple, Texas. The $1.2 billion facility, spanning over 760,000 square feet, began construction in 2022 and has now become operational, employing less than 100 permanent staff.

To commemorate the grand opening, Meta announced a $400,000 grant aimed at funding mobile AI and STEM learning laboratories for students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade in the Temple and Belton independent school districts.

The launch comes amidst growing public concern in Texas regarding the power grid and water resources. Meta officials addressed these issues, confirming that the Temple campus's electrical consumption is matched with 100% clean and renewable energy, supported by more than 40 renewable projects across Texas that contribute approximately 9,000 megawatts to the state's grid. The company also committed to publishing annual sustainability reports to track resource usage.
