Commissioners vote against creating a planning commission and zoning laws to regulate data centers
The Grady County Board of Commissioners voted against asking residents to create a county planning commission and board of adjustment to regulate data centers. The decision follows the Amber Town Council’s refusal to annex nearly 3,000 acres, including more than 800 acres purchased by Aligned Data Centers for a proposed facility near Amber, Oklahoma.
The Grady County Board of Commissioners decided not to proceed with a ballot measure that would have created a county planning commission and board of adjustment with authority to regulate data centers. The proposed regulatory structure emerged after the Amber Town Council declined to annex nearly 3,000 acres of land near the town.
More than 800 acres of the land, located about three miles outside Amber, was purchased by Aligned Data Centers (OK) Propco LLC for more than $17 million on July 29. The property includes land intended for a proposed data center project.
