Marion County Presiding Commissioner David Lomax confirmed that Marion County has enacted a complete moratorium on any new data center construction. This measure has been put in place to allow local officials and a newly established task force to thoroughly prepare for and make informed decisions regarding future data center proposals.
Palmyra City Attorney James Lemon affirmed that officials in both Palmyra and Hannibal are actively working to understand the implications of data centers to best safeguard the interests of their residents. He also addressed concerns about eminent domain, assuring that Hannibal would not collaborate with any entity seeking to unfairly acquire private land, noting that existing industrial parks are deemed more suitable for data center development.
