The Oklahoma City Council voted 6-3 to approve rezoning land near Yukon for a large-scale data center proposed by Beltline Energy, despite the city’s temporary moratorium on new data center projects. Mayor David Holt is calling for the moratorium to be extended through June 2027, while Yukon-area residents have raised concerns about the project.

The Oklahoma City Council approved a 6-3 rezoning vote for a large-scale data center near Interstate 40 and Frisco Road. The site is within Oklahoma City but lies near homes in Yukon. The proposal from Beltline Energy was submitted before the city’s temporary data center moratorium took effect and had been postponed several times.

Mayor David Holt said the project will face restrictions, including limits on water use and noise, and credited Councilwoman Katrina Avers with working extensively with residents and the applicant. Despite supporting the rezoning, Holt said Oklahoma City should extend its moratorium on new data center projects through June 2027 to develop more comprehensive rules. Neighbors in Yukon continue to express concerns, while Holt said he is open to discussions with Yukon officials.
