Vantage's VA2 data center in Ashburn, Virginia, spans about 800,000 square feet and is located directly beside nearby homes. Residents interviewed for the program said the facility is visible from their front porches and produces a persistent buzzing sound that disrupts the surrounding community.
The facility uses eight natural-gas turbines for power and has 40 backup diesel generators that are routinely tested or activated if the turbines fail.
