Middlesex Township officials are working to update the zoning ordinance to explicitly address data centers, which are not currently defined or assigned to any zoning district. The planning commission says an update is urgent, but the Board of Supervisors made no decisions at its work session.

Middlesex Township’s planning commission is developing changes to the township’s zoning ordinance because data centers are not currently defined or specifically regulated. Planning commission member Alex Wing told the Board of Supervisors that the lack of provisions makes it unclear where such facilities could be located.

The township’s zoning map includes agricultural, residential, commercial, town center and restricted industrial districts, along with a Route 228 commercial overlay. No ordinance changes were approved at the Board of Supervisors’ work session, and officials are still determining how to address data centers and similar uses.
