Google is considering a roughly 1,000-acre site in Goochland County’s West Creek Business Park for a potential 1,200-megawatt data center campus. The site is within the county’s technology overlay district, allowing the project to proceed by right without an additional public hearing, although Google has not submitted plans and is still conducting due diligence.

Google is considering purchasing about 1,000 acres in West Creek Business Park in Goochland County for a potential 1,200-megawatt data center campus. The company confirmed its interest after the county disclosed that Google had resumed discussions following adoption of the county’s technology overlay district. Because the property is within the district, a future data center could be permitted by right without another public hearing; Google has not yet submitted plans and is still evaluating the site.

The potential project has appeared in State Corporation Commission filings involving Dominion Energy’s electric interconnection queue. The announcement comes as Goochland faces a lawsuit from four residents challenging the county’s adoption of the overlay district. A separate data center proposal by Denver-based Tract at Tuckahoe Tech Park would require a conditional-use permit and public hearings.
