Wisconsin State Senator Discusses Data Center Moratoriums and Legislative Inaction
Wisconsin State Senator Brad Pfaff discussed the Legislature's inaction on data center legislation, despite several counties in his district debating moratoriums and study committees. The La Crosse County Board is specifically scheduled to vote on a data center moratorium this week.
Wisconsin state Sen. Brad Pfaff recently discussed the topic of A.I. data centers, lamenting the state Legislature's failure to pass any related legislation over the past two years. This inaction persists despite proposals from both Democrats and Republicans, neither of which advanced before the session concluded in March.
According to Pfaff, multiple counties within his district are currently debating data center moratoriums and forming study committees to address the burgeoning industry. Specifically, the La Crosse County Board is slated to vote on a data center moratorium on Thursday, highlighting localized efforts to regulate development in the absence of statewide guidance.
The conversation also touched upon other legislative matters, including a budget surplus deal which Pfaff voted against due to concerns about a structural budget deficit, as well as issues regarding concert ticket prices and third-party sellers.
