Planning commission considering preemptive restrictions on data centers
The Dresden Municipal-Regional Planning Commission is considering stricter zoning rules for data centers and hyperscale data centers, including limits on locations, lot sizes, noise and setbacks. Separately, a proposed data center near Milan was removed from the Gibson County Commission’s agenda after the landowners withdrew from the deal.
Dresden’s Municipal-Regional Planning Commission is continuing work on proposed amendments to the city’s zoning ordinance that would impose stricter requirements on data centers and hyperscale facilities. The proposal would define the facilities and establish rules governing where they may be built, minimum lot sizes, sound levels and separation distances.
Planning Commission Chairman Tommy Moore said the commission has consulted with the Weakley County Municipal Electric System and Dresden’s public works director while developing the regulations. The discussion comes as a separate data center proposal near Milan in Gibson County has stalled after the property owners withdrew from the deal, removing it from the county commission’s upcoming agenda.
