'Project Crossroads' details 21 data centers across 1,733 acres at Berry Hill
Stack Infrastructure has submitted permit applications for Project Crossroads, a proposed data center campus with up to 21 facilities on 1,733 acres at the Southern Virginia Megasite at Berry Hill in Pittsylvania County. The project could require 3,000 megawatts of power and up to 7 million gallons of water per day, with construction potentially starting in about a year.
Stack Infrastructure has filed a 92-page environmental permit application for Project Crossroads, a planned digital infrastructure campus at the Southern Virginia Megasite at Berry Hill in Pittsylvania County. The proposal calls for up to 21 data centers across 1,733 acres, an estimated $100 billion investment, and as many as 2,500 permanent jobs. The Danville Pittsylvania Regional Industrial Facility Authority approved a purchase agreement with Stack in April, and the company expects a permit decision by mid-March of next year.
The campus could require 3,000 megawatts of power, supported by two proposed natural gas generation facilities and a private agreement with Appalachian Power for at least 299 megawatts by the end of 2028. Stack has also arranged for up to 6 million gallons of water per day from Eden and another 1 million gallons from Danville. The application includes plans for wetland restoration, conservation easements, vegetated buffers and other mitigation measures, while stating that 81% of the site's wetlands and stream channels would avoid impacts.
