Data center developer, county residents to hold opposing meetings this week
Corscale Data Centers will hold a public information session about its proposed Project Gravity campus in Archbald, while Lackawanna County residents are organizing a separate meeting to oppose or scrutinize data center development. The seven-building project has drawn concerns about battery storage, power generation, proximity to neighborhoods, and broader environmental and community impacts.
Corscale Data Centers, the Texas-based developer of the proposed Project Gravity campus in Archbald, will meet with residents at a community information session this week. The project would include seven data centers across more than 180 acres and has recently been revised to use 45 backup generators and 430 megawatts of batteries instead of 260 generators.
Residents will hold a separate community conversation in Throop with State Sen. Katie Muth and Lackawanna County Commissioner Bill Gaughan, both critics of data center expansion. The meetings come amid sustained local opposition to Project Gravity and dozens of other data center and power plant proposals in the county. Muth is also sponsoring a Pennsylvania Senate bill that would impose a statewide data center moratorium; the measure has been referred to the Senate Local Government Committee.
