Nearly All Wyoming Residents Oppose Selling Public Lands; Most Oppose More AI Data Centers, UW Survey Shows
A University of Wyoming survey found that 70% of Wyoming residents oppose allowing more large data centers to support artificial intelligence. Opposition was a majority view across political parties and age groups, although the survey addressed statewide sentiment rather than a specific project.
A University of Wyoming election-year survey found that 70% of Wyoming respondents oppose permitting more large data center projects to support artificial intelligence, while 30% support additional development. Opposition was strongest among Democrats and younger residents but represented the majority among Republicans, independents and every age group.
The survey included 660 randomly selected Wyoming adults and was conducted by the University of Wyoming’s School of Politics, Public Affairs and International Studies in partnership with the Wyoming Survey and Analysis Center. Associate professor Ryan Williamson said the results indicate broad caution as Wyoming considers large new data center projects.
