Pennsylvania Residents Rally Against Proposed Corscale Data Center Project in Archbald
A community meeting in Throop drew about 175 people opposed to Corscale Data Centers’ proposed Project Gravity development in nearby Archbald. State Sen. Katie Muth promoted a bill calling for a three-year Pennsylvania data center moratorium, while Lackawanna County Commissioner Bill Gaughan and other residents urged continued opposition to the seven-building project.
About 175 residents attended a NEPA Stands Up community meeting in Throop focused on opposition to Corscale Data Centers’ Project Gravity, a proposal for seven 138,000-square-foot data centers on more than 180 acres in Archbald. Speakers said the project could intensify pressure on the region’s land, electricity infrastructure and water resources, while supporters and industry representatives argued that development may be inevitable.
State Sen. Katie Muth criticized Gov. Josh Shapiro’s data center policies and highlighted her bill proposing a three-year moratorium on new data center development in Pennsylvania. Lackawanna County Commissioner Bill Gaughan, Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti and other officials and residents said public opposition could still prevent the Archbald project, despite Corscale’s efforts to promote it through a community information session.
