About 100 residents attended a data center forum at Mandan High School as Mandan considers whether to allow construction of a hyperscale data center. A moratorium is currently preventing the project from moving forward, and residents raised concerns about noise and the facility’s proximity to schools.
Brenda Nagel, president and CEO of the Bismarck Chamber of Commerce, said the relevant ordinance remains in draft form and that construction cannot begin until it is finalized. Officials and industry representatives also noted that North Dakota already has several smaller data centers that have attracted little public attention.
