Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry and Meta have formally announced a significant expansion of Meta's data center in Richland Parish, Louisiana. The project, which will increase the data center's capacity from 2 gigawatts to 5 gigawatts, represents an investment exceeding $50 billion, positioning it as one of the largest AI data center developments globally.

Dina Powell McCormick, representing Meta, stated that the expansion reflects the company's long-term commitment to Louisiana in response to the growing demand for artificial intelligence. Meta has also pledged over $1 billion for local infrastructure improvements, including roads, water, and wastewater, and committed $5 million to Louisiana Delta Community College for workforce training and scholarships.

State leaders emphasized that this massive investment is expected to bolster Louisiana's economy and tax base, with the added revenue supporting education funding and potentially making Richland Parish teachers the highest paid in the state. However, the report also noted that environmental concerns related to the project still remain.
