Guilford County delays data center moratorium decision until November 5
The Guilford County Board of Commissioners delayed a decision on enacting a data center moratorium until Nov. 5 while it reviews additional public input and studies the issue. The proposed moratorium would cover areas outside Greensboro, which already has a 180-day data center moratorium, amid strong public opposition over environmental and health concerns.
The Guilford County Board of Commissioners postponed action on a proposed data center moratorium until Nov. 5, saying it wants to gather more public input and further study the issue. The delay follows a public hearing where dozens of residents spoke, with most opposing data center development and citing potential environmental impacts, health hazards and regulatory concerns.
The proposed county moratorium would apply to areas outside Greensboro but within Guilford County. Greensboro’s City Council previously voted 7-0 for a 180-day moratorium pausing new or amended plans and development approvals for data centers within the city.
