The primary purpose of this temporary halt is to provide the Planning and Zoning Board with sufficient time to develop and implement an ordinance specifically designed to prevent large-scale data centers from being established within the county. The moratorium can also be extended if deemed necessary by the commission.
Community engagement was evident at the meeting, with several residents from the Yankton County area attending. Ten individuals addressed the commissioners, all expressing their support for the moratorium, indicating local concern and opposition to unchecked data center expansion.
