Maysville data center update

The City of Maysville continues to face public scrutiny and contentious meetings regarding a data center project that received conditional use approval in January 2025. Citizens have expressed significant dissatisfaction with the Maysville City Council, alleging a lack of transparency leading up to the initial vote. During a recent town hall, residents specifically called for the removal of Mayor Richard Presley, Ward One Counselor Steve Boswell, and Ward Three Counselor Richard Parr, citing their vocal support for the project.

Councilor Boswell, acknowledging his limited experience in municipal government, dismissed some criticisms, including residents referring to council members as "the three stooges." Conversely, Ward 2 Counselor Amanda Farley and Ward Four Counselor Brick Jackson have been critical of the project. Farley remarked that the situation has unified the divided city against the developers, stating, "we don't want them here," while Jackson expressed disgust at what he perceived as developers "spewing lies and robotic responses."

The city council has since taken action by approving a 180-day moratorium on any new data center developments. The developers involved in the controversial project were identified as Northern Data Group and Rum Group, formerly known as Rumble. A subsequent city council meeting is scheduled for Monday.
