Pennsylvania Voters Weigh Data Centers and Other Issues Ahead of 2026 Midterm Elections
A WVIA election program examines Pennsylvania voters' top concerns ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Data centers ranked among the leading issues in the station's survey, with some voters expressing concern that development could affect the region's mountains, rivers and lakes.
WVIA's Keystone Edition focused on Pennsylvania's 2026 midterm elections, drawing on an online survey of 207 respondents and discussions with political consultants and candidates. Health care, inflation, environmental concerns and data centers were among the issues respondents identified as important, although the survey was not scientific and its participants were largely older registered Democrats.
Some voters in northeastern Pennsylvania said data center development could threaten open space and natural resources. Gina Svoboda of Luzerne County specifically cited potential effects on the region's mountains, rivers and lakes, but the program did not identify a specific data center project or company.
