Pittsburg: City Council Plans Vote On Temporary Data Center Moratorium
The Pittsburg City Council voted 4-0 to direct staff to prepare a 45-day moratorium on new artificial intelligence data center development. The proposed pause would affect new projects and phases II and III of the AVAIO Perseus Data Center, while allowing Phase I to proceed; the council is scheduled to consider the moratorium on Oct. 26.
The Pittsburg City Council voted unanimously to prepare a 45-day moratorium on new artificial intelligence data centers and additional phases of existing projects. The proposed restrictions would apply to phases II and III of AVAIO Digital's Perseus Data Center at the Pittsburg Technology Park, the former Delta View Golf Course, but Phase I could continue during the pause.
The council's action is intended to give city officials time to consider longer-term data center regulations or a possible ban. Pittsburg's proposal follows similar actions in Oakland, San Francisco, Gilroy and San Mateo County; Gilroy has extended its moratorium through September 2027. Pittsburg councilmembers are expected to vote on the proposed moratorium Oct. 26.
