US Representative Dina Titus has sent a letter to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) demanding answers by July 22nd regarding its approval of an amendment for a data center project near Boulder City, Nevada. Titus is questioning the agency's decision to greenlight a key aspect of the proposed data center on federal land without public input.
The project, which is linked to Townsite Solar 2, has already faced considerable local opposition. The Boulder City Planning Commission previously voted against the proposal, and the developer has since withdrawn a separate application for city-owned land. However, Rep. Titus stated that the BLM's Las Vegas field office quietly approved an amendment in June, which would still allow the company to build the data center on adjacent public land.
In her letter, Congresswoman Titus is seeking clarification on the public outreach conducted by the BLM, whether public hearings will be held, and how the agency is assessing the project's potential impacts on water, power supply, the electrical grid, and local utility costs.
