The Shelbyville Common Council voted Monday night to approve annexation of real estate tied to a data center proposal in the city.
Nearly 3,000 people have signed a petition against the plan and Monday's council meeting was overflowing with people interested in the vote. The crowd even spilled outside the council chambers and outside the building, with residents watching and listening to the meeting on their phones.
Real estate company Prologis requested 429 acres east of Interstate 74 and SR 44 to be rezoned as industrial.
People who spoke at Monday's meeting addressed concerns about property value, water quality and noise pollution. Some asked for city leaders to take more time.
