Suwannee County will not be implementing a ban or moratorium on data centers, as any attempt to do so would be considered null and void. Suwannee County Attorney Adam Morrison informed the Suwannee County Commission at its Tuesday meeting that a new state law effectively overrides any local efforts to impose such restrictions. This legal opinion comes despite prior discussions regarding potential 2025 legislation for a local ban.

Morrison clarified that the new law does not automatically repeal the 2025 legislation that had been under consideration but rather renders any county-level moratorium unenforceable. This development means that data center development in Suwannee County will not face a local prohibition, a significant outcome for future projects in the area.
