Data center opponents to petition Hubbard Township Trustees tonight
Opponents of data centers in Hubbard Township plan to present petitions with more than 500 signatures calling for zoning restrictions. Township trustees are considering proposed zoning changes after imposing a 12-month moratorium on data center development, while Hubbard city voters will decide on a separate proposed ban.
The Stop the Data Centers-Unite coalition, led in the article by Katie Costello, has collected more than 500 signatures urging Hubbard Township trustees to adopt zoning rules that would effectively prevent data centers from locating in the township. Coalition members planned to present the petitions during a public comment session on proposed zoning changes at the trustees’ regular meeting.
The trustees imposed a 12-month moratorium after a real estate developer inquired about constructing a data facility on the Trans Rail America property near Drummond Avenue and Mount Everett Road. Separately, voters in the City of Hubbard are scheduled to decide whether to approve a proposed ordinance banning data centers within the city limits.
