More than 100 residents rallied in Springdale against a proposed hyperscale AI data center at the former Cheswick Generating Station. Protesters urged Allegheny County to reject the application, citing alleged procedural violations, noise pollution, environmental concerns and potential increases in electricity rates.

Allegheny County Economic Development's Planning Division is reviewing the project because Springdale lacks ordinances establishing its jurisdiction over subdivision and land-use decisions. The county identified 97 discrepancies in the application; Allegheny DC Property Co. LLC has said it will correct them. After the final preliminary hearing, the county has 90 days to decide whether to approve, approve with conditions or deny the land development plan. Springdale Borough Council previously approved the project's conditional-use application.
