Liberty County commissioners approved a 120-day moratorium on data center development in the county’s unincorporated areas. The pause will allow officials to study potential impacts and review whether existing zoning and land-use rules adequately address data centers.

The Liberty County Board of Commissioners approved a 120-day moratorium on new data center permit applications and related approvals in unincorporated parts of the Georgia county. The moratorium does not affect ongoing development reviews, and officials said there are currently no pending data center applications.

County Attorney Kenny Davis said the pause will give county staff and the Liberty County Planning Commission time to examine existing zoning ordinances, land-use regulations and the comprehensive plan. Officials emphasized that the moratorium is intended to support research and potential rule changes rather than signal opposition to data centers, though an extension could be considered after a public hearing.
