Waterloo residents question proposed south side data center
Waterloo residents attended a public meeting to question city council members about a proposed data center project on the south side of town. The proposal, intended for cloud support and business park growth, still requires approval from planning and zoning before going to the city council for a vote. Additional meetings are scheduled for discussion.
Waterloo residents gathered at a meeting at Byrnes Park to voice concerns and ask questions to city council members regarding a proposed data center project. Council members Steve Simon and Kelly Martin were in attendance.
The proposed "Edge data center" was previously mentioned at a City Council meeting last month. If approved, the city plans to site the facility on the south side of Waterloo, intending it for cloud support to foster the growth of the city's business park.
The proposal faces a critical step as it must first secure approval from the planning and zoning commission before it can proceed to the City Council for a final vote. The initial planning and zoning meeting is slated for the following day, with additional discussions anticipated in the coming months.
