Residents of Gilroy, California are the latest community to confront the construction of a massive data center. The project was approved with little public notice and no city council vote was required. Now, some community members are waking up to the reality of a 438,500 square-foot Amazon Web Services data center and asking why they didn't know about it sooner. One of them is 21-year-old Landon Sepulveda, a leading face of the opposition. His online campaign against the center went viral and helped galvanize residents. City council meetings were suddenly packed with constituents demanding answers about who approved the center.
