Amazon revealed as land buyer for possible data center development in West Richland
Amazon has purchased land in West Richland and is considering developing a three-building data center campus in the Lewis and Clark Ranch area. The city has not approved the project and no development application has been submitted, while residents have raised concerns about water, energy, noise and environmental impacts.
Amazon has purchased land north of Ruppert Road in West Richland, Washington, and is exploring a three-building data center campus that the company estimates could create 120 to 150 full-time jobs and generate millions of dollars in local tax revenue. The property was originally acquired by data center developer Trammell Crow.
The City of West Richland said no development application has been submitted and the project has not been approved. Amazon plans to host a Nov. 19 community open house at Enterprise Middle School, where residents can question company representatives about the proposal, including its potential effects on water, energy, sound, jobs and the environment. Earlier city council meetings about the property drew numerous speakers who expressed concerns about utility costs, noise pollution and environmental damage.
