Lexington Urban County Council unanimously extends data center moratorium for one year, set to end Oct. 2027
The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council voted unanimously to extend Lexington's data center moratorium through Oct. 31, 2027. Residents urged the council to maintain a tougher stance, while Dart Points is seeking to build a data center at the Lexmark site; related zoning changes are scheduled for further consideration.
The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council voted 11-0 to extend the city's data center moratorium for one year, keeping the ban in place until Oct. 31, 2027. The council fast-tracked the measure despite Councilmember Liz Sheehan's call for additional public input, with the second-reading motion passing 10-1.
Residents including Colin Harris and Emily Isaacs urged officials to take stronger action against data centers. Councilmember Emma Curtis said she acted in response to public concerns and specifically referenced Dart Points, which is seeking to develop a data center at the Lexmark property. Two proposed data center zoning changes are scheduled to return to the council on Oct. 22.
