The Leavenworth County Commission in Kansas voted 3-2 to implement a 90-day moratorium on new data center developments. This decision comes amidst significant debate among Tonganoxie residents regarding "Project Bluestem," a proposed 1,000-acre hyperscale data center north of Interstate 70, developed by Cloverleaf.
During earlier public comment meetings, many Tonganoxie residents voiced concerns over the project. Rebecca Davis, a local community organizer, clarified that the moratorium's intent is not to block development outright but to ensure residents are informed and proper regulations are established. Davis expressed satisfaction with the commissioners' vote, framing it as an example of elected officials protecting their citizens. Developers from Cloverleaf had previously addressed questions about Project Bluestem during a public meeting on March 18.
