County Planning and Zoning Commission hosts conversation on data centers
Lyon County officials held their first community discussion on potential data centers and battery energy storage systems, including draft regulations and residents’ concerns. A county moratorium on data centers is scheduled to end in mid-January, though commissioners could extend it while regulations are finalized.
The Lyon County Planning and Zoning Department hosted a community meeting at the county courthouse annex to discuss potential data centers and battery energy storage systems. Planning and Zoning Director Sam Seeley answered residents’ questions, heard concerns and reviewed draft regulations for future data center development.
The county is operating on a separate timeline from the city, which recently voted to pause its data center discussion for 10 years. Lyon County commissioners enacted a moratorium in July, and it is scheduled to expire in mid-January unless the county completes its regulations or extends the pause. Seeley announced another community discussion for the following week.
