Data center 'Godfather' addresses DeSoto County at invite-only meeting

DeSoto County Commissioners in Southwest Florida have approved the region's first data center plan for Arcadia, despite significant local opposition. Residents expressed concerns about the impact on the small, rural county and its undeveloped land.
To address these concerns, developers invited an individual known as the "godfather of data centers" to speak with residents. However, neighbors reported that this invite-only meeting failed to answer crucial questions regarding the potential environmental impacts, as well as the effects on water and electricity resources.
Concurrently with the data center's approval, county commissioners also voted to implement a one-year moratorium on all new data center proposals. This decision indicates that further data center development in DeSoto County will likely be delayed for some time.
