During its Monday meeting, the Warrensburg City Council unanimously approved two ordinances aimed at regulating future data center developments within the city. The decision followed a public hearing concerning updates to the city's zoning code to incorporate these new restrictions. The ordinances impose comprehensive restrictions on the design, site planning, construction, and operation of data center facilities. They also establish a rigorous licensing process and set standards to protect against environmental pollution and excessive noise. Key provisions include limiting audible and ambient noise levels to under 60 decibels during the day and 50 decibels at night. Additionally, the new rules mandate that mechanical equipment be screened by acoustical barriers on all four sides. Data centers located near existing residences will also face restrictions on generator testing, limiting such activities to between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Despite the approval of these ordinances, Warrensburg staff reported that they have not yet received any inquiries or building permit applications for data centers.
