City Council approves wastewater discharge ordinance for future data centers
The San Angelo City Council approved a wastewater discharge ordinance for future data centers, voting 5-1. However, a decision on a separate water use ordinance for these facilities was tabled until a future meeting due to a potential tie vote. Residents voiced opposition to both the proposed water use regulations and the Skybox Data Center project.
The San Angelo City Council met to consider water use and wastewater regulations for future data centers, specifically addressing a planned project on a 300-acre site in the Paul Ann District. Council members voted 5-1 to officially adopt wastewater discharge regulations for all upcoming data center developments in the city.
However, a vote on a separate water use regulation ordinance was delayed until the June 16th meeting. The postponement was due to the realization that the vote would result in a tie, indicating a need for further deliberation among council members. Council members emphasized their intent to establish clear regulations for water use, rather than leaving it unregulated.
During the council meeting, several residents expressed their opposition to both the proposed water use regulations and the specific Skybox Data Center project, highlighting community concerns about the impact of these facilities.
