Optimal Transit has unveiled a second configuration for its Kraaken™ Data Center platform, named the Blue Economy VITAL 100 MW Kraaken™. This new design allows the offshore vessel to divert a portion of its 100 MW power capacity to provide baseload electricity and fresh water to shore, in addition to hosting 60 MW of AI compute. The company highlights its potential for disaster relief, citing its ability to restore power and water to coastlines without fuel or emissions.
Optimal Transit, a maritime technology partnership between InMar Technologies and OptiFuel Systems, announced a new configuration for its Kraaken™ platform, called the Blue Economy VITAL 100 MW Kraaken™.
The vessel, originally designed as an AI data center platform, now features a dual purpose, capable of redirecting a portion of its 100 MW power capacity from data center operations to direct utility service. This allows it to continuously export baseload electricity and fresh water to shore, producing enough power for 32,000 homes and clean water for 150,000 people, alongside its 60 MW AI compute capacity. Optimal Transit emphasized the platform's potential as a deployable offshore utility for disaster-struck coastlines, suggesting it could provide critical relief in scenarios like those seen in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, and Gaza within three years, without requiring fuel or producing emissions.
