Kalamazoo city leaders unanimously approved a one-year moratorium preventing data center planning and development within the city. The pause is expected to remain in place until October 2027, allowing officials and a working group to evaluate approaches taken by other Michigan jurisdictions.

Officials noted that 91 Michigan cities and counties are considering or have adopted data center moratoriums. Several proposed data centers are also under discussion elsewhere in West Michigan, including in Lowell, Gaines, Solo and Door townships.
