Hallam, NE Approves Zoning for Monolith Data Center
The Hallam Village Board approved zoning for a 35-megawatt data center at Monolith Materials’ Olive Creek facility, allowing Monolith and Crusoe Technologies to proceed with the project. Residents raised concerns about water use, noise and fire safety, while the construction timeline remains unknown.
Hallam’s Village Board approved zoning for a 35-megawatt data center at Monolith Materials’ Olive Creek facility after roughly an hour of public discussion. The project, developed with Denver-based Crusoe Technologies, would use up to 36 modular units and create about 15 jobs across 10 acres. Monolith estimates first-year water use at about 770,000 gallons, including a one-time 500,000-gallon injection, while Crusoe says its systems use closed-loop cooling.
Residents questioned the project’s water demand, noise and fire preparedness. Crusoe representative Steve Buster said the company has a fire plan, but officials and residents have not been given a construction start date. The approval comes as Stark Power and another data-center developer pursue large land deals near Hallam, raising concerns about additional development in the region.
