Louisa County Supervisors Approve 18-Month Data Center Moratorium
The Louisa County Board of Supervisors has enacted an 18-month moratorium on data center development in all unincorporated areas of the county. This measure, passed as Ordinance 26-1, aims to provide officials more time to gather information and develop additional regulations for these facilities. A separate public hearing is set for a proposed moratorium on cryptocurrency mining projects.
The Louisa County Board of Supervisors has officially passed Ordinance 26-1, enacting an 18-month moratorium on data center development. The decision was made following a public hearing in July and will apply to all unincorporated areas within Louisa County. The moratorium is designed to give county officials and board members sufficient time to research and establish further regulations for data center facilities.
During the public hearing, Randy Foor, a member of the county's civil service commission, advocated for stronger protections against cryptocurrency mining operations within the county's zoning ordinance. This comes as the board also set a public hearing for September 1st for a separate Ordinance 26-2, which proposes a moratorium specifically on cryptocurrency mining projects in the county.
