Data center company eyes land near Princeton, receives approval for a well
BT Aycock Data Center LLC received approval to drill a well near Princeton, Texas, as it explores a potential data center project on nearly 50 acres outside the city. The company requested millions of gallons of water for construction and future commercial use, prompting questions from residents, while city and county officials say no formal data center application has been submitted.
BT Aycock Data Center LLC received a permit from the North Texas Groundwater Conservation District to drill a well on property near Princeton in Collin County. The company requested up to 5.56 million gallons of water through 2028 and 1.65 million gallons annually afterward, with the Woodbine Aquifer listed as the source.
The well is associated with preliminary plans for a potential AI compute campus, although it remains unclear whether Princeton is included in broader North Texas development plans connected to the company. Solstice Data said the facility would use water mainly during construction and initial setup, with a cooling system designed not to consume water during normal operations. Princeton spokesperson Erin Mudie said no formal development application has been filed, and county officials said they had received no construction or other permitting requests. Residents have raised concerns about potential water and power use, noise, light pollution and environmental impacts.
