ST. FRANCISVILLE - Major improvements are slated for the West Feliciana Parish water system, driven by the ongoing construction of a multi-billion dollar data center located south of St. Francisville.
Hut 8, the developer behind the expansive data center project, has committed to a significant donation to bolster the local water infrastructure. This includes contributing a new water well, eight miles of new water main, and fire hydrants to the parish's system.
In an effort to mitigate environmental impact and conserve resources, the data center itself will incorporate a closed-loop cooling system. This design choice aims to substantially limit the amount of water required for the facility's operation.
Construction on the data center project commenced last September. The development is anticipated to generate more than 1,000 construction jobs during its build-out phase, followed by approximately 100 permanent positions upon completion.
