A key point of contention was the August 4th vote on a data center application, despite crucial groundwater testing related to the project not being expected until 2027.
Following public comments, Commissioner Ron Boskovich addressed the concerns and a recent community protest, making controversial statements. He dismissed opponents as 10 to 30 people who "don't represent the 50,000 people here" and called them an "angry mob," remarking that they wouldn't change his mind. These comments led to significant viewer engagement on Facebook, with over 600 comments, many criticizing Boskovich's stance and accusing commissioners of prioritizing money over community welfare.
In response to the continued public interest and outcry, Commissioners Ian Bayne and Bruce Jabour scheduled a special community forum for Saturday, July 25th, at 10:00 a.m. Commissioner Jabour emphasized that the forum is intended as an opportunity for developers, experts, and residents to present all perspectives to the board, not as a debate.
