An existing data center in Trumbull, Connecticut, operated by 365 Data Centers and Aphorio Carter, is being upgraded to support artificial-intelligence computing. Residents are concerned about future expansion and have organized opposition, while the town passed a two-year moratorium on new data centers; a separate proposal to restrict capacity increases at existing facilities was rejected.

An existing data center in Trumbull, Connecticut, is undergoing a retrofit to replace conventional computing equipment with higher-powered AI chips. 365 Data Centers and Aphorio Carter are leading the upgrade, which company representatives say will not increase the facility’s current size, water use, electricity needs or noise, although officials and residents acknowledge the property has substantial room for future expansion.

The Trumbull Town Council recently approved a two-year moratorium on new data centers, but the measure does not apply to the existing facility’s conversion. Residents organized through the Trumbull AI Data Center Watch group are seeking written guarantees limiting future growth. The Planning and Zoning Commission rejected a proposed one-year moratorium that would have restricted capacity or intensity increases at existing data centers, citing vague and difficult-to-enforce language.
