Gov: Inkster City Council, Inkster Planning Commission

A proposed data center in Inkster, Michigan, was halted after the City Council declined to advance a special land use permit sought by developer Robert Kato of Klever Technology Center LLC. The project would have converted a vacant 40,000-square-foot warehouse on Southern Street near Michigan Avenue.

Residents packed City Hall and raised concerns about environmental impacts, noise and light pollution, while others said the property should be used for different businesses. Although the Inkster Planning Commission recommended conditional approval at an Oct. 12 public hearing, no council member introduced a motion approving the permit. Kato said he does not plan to appeal or continue pursuing the project at that site.
