The Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center in Clinton, Mississippi, is seeing significant progress, marked by a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony. City of Clinton and Hinds County leaders joined corporate partners to highlight the $1 billion industrial development project, which involves AWS's cloud computing and data storage operations in the former Delphi Packard Electric building. This project is expected to enhance local services and amenities for residents.
Concerns from residents regarding potential higher power bills and extensive water usage were addressed by officials. Roger Wagner, Amazon's Economic Development Vice President, clarified that the facility will not use water for cooling, only for domestic purposes. Entergy confirmed that due to additional capacity in the power grid, Clinton customers should not anticipate increased electricity costs.
During the construction phase, about 1,500 workers will have jobs, with over 100 permanent positions expected once the data center becomes operational.
